The failure of the Graham/Cassidy health care repeal bill was a victory for millions of Americans. But that doesn’t mean we can rest easy.
The Trump administration is continuing its efforts to brazenly sabotage and undermine the Affordable Care Act. And reports indicate the uncertainty caused by the President’s ACA threats are having an impact.
In Florida, ACA premiums will rise 45 percent next year, “due to the political uncertainty that has plagued the healthcare debate, specifically whether the Trump administration will stop paying subsidies that lower out-of-pocket costs for low-income Americans.”
In Maine, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield decided to leave the marketplace, because “planning and pricing for ACA-compliant health plans has become increasingly difficult.”
In Mississippi, the HHS abruptly decided not to hold ANY ACA marketplace events in the state in the lead-up to open enrollment. As Roy Mitchell, executive director of the Mississippi Health Advocacy Program, says, “HHS bailing out was the last straw for us,” Mitchell said by phone Wednesday. “It’s clearly sabotage.”
