Last week, after months of uncertainty, and just hours after signing an executive order that will devastate health care markets, President Trump announced that he is cutting off funding for required payments that help people pay for out of pocket costs.
It is appalling that the President would ignore the warnings of the dire impact of ending payments from those who know health care best:
- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the nation’s leading hospital and doctor organizations, and state insurance commissioners of both parties agree that ending payments will increase premiums and force insurers out of the market.
- Nonpartisan analysis of the impact of ending payments shows that premiums will increase by 20% on average next year.
- Twenty states (and counting) attribute rate increases to uncertainty over whether the Trump administration will make these payments: CA, CT, DE, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, LA, ME, MI, MS, NM, NY, OH, OR, SC, SD, TN, UT, VA and WA.
Republicans in Congress must stand up to this sabotage and demand the administration stop playing politics with people’s lives. Make sure to let them know where you stand.
