Heather Francis is a mother of four from Pennsylvania. After delivering her fourth child, she had a subarachnoid hemorrhage. Thankfully, because of our current health care law, she was able to get the care she needed.

“To get the care that I needed meant that I needed to purchase a new medical plan. I had coverage, but…where I could go get care was very, very limited… I needed a broader program,” Heather explained.
In the past, private insurance acceptance for a 33-year-old stroke victim would have been virtually impossible. But because of the Affordable Care Act, Heather transitioned seamlessly to a plan that could provide her with the treatment she needed.
“Through the Affordable Care Act, I was able to purchase the plan that I needed to get the care that I needed, and go to the rehab hospital that was best suited for my situation.”
For Heather and millions of other Americans, the Affordable Care Act means not just an avenue to quality care, but a reassuring answer when life’s most unexpected turns come knocking. “The reality is you never know what’s going to happen in life. And to know that health insurance isn’t something that you have to worry about…is priceless.”
While Congress moves quickly to repeal our health care, Heather encourages everyone—not just those covered by the Affordable Care Act—to consider the consequences of this huge decision. “Maybe it won’t impact you. Maybe you have the coverage. Maybe you have a job. But it could impact your mother. It could impact your grandmother. It could impact you in 5 years…You don’t know if you’re going to get sick…But when it happens, to know that you don’t have to worry about that financial aspect is invaluable.”
