After a gloomy morning, the sun came out at Federal Plaza in Chicago on Wednesday afternoon for our Save My Care bus stop.
The event was led by William McNary, Co-Director of Citizen Action Illinois, and we heard from medical professionals and patients on the benefits of the Affordable Care Act.

In Chicago, we heard from Julie Blackman—a mom, a daughter, a sister, a social worker, and a small business owner. She’s also a breast cancer survivor.
“In 2012, I had my annual mammogram and was asked to come back for a biopsy. At the time I didn’t think much of it.
Then, the odyssey began—I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
After each chemo treatment, I received an immunity booster shot, costing $6,000 each. Then, I started my own private practice and my insurance plan ended—but as a small business owner, I was able to get covered through the Affordable Care Act.
Because of the Affordable Care Act, I was able to be proactive about ensuring I maintained my health.”
