We started our week by heading to the beautiful Grand Canyon State.

In Arizona, more than 709,000 people would lose their health insurance if the Affordable Care Act was repealed. There’s a lot on the line—and Arizonans are ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work.

We held a rally with supporters in Flagstaff, Arizona on Monday afternoon. There, we met Jeff Jeans, a small business owner from Sedona. You might remember him from last month’s town hall meeting with Speaker Ryan.
“When I found out that I had stage 3-4 cancer, I was given six weeks to live. I thought I could just pay cash for the treatments, but the doctors needed an insurance card. Because of the Affordable Care Act, I was able to get covered, despite my pre-existing condition. Patient protections are essential. Guaranteed coverage for pre-existing conditions are what saves lives.
This experience changed me so profoundly, that I cried in my hospital bed because I had been wrong. I am thankful to my wife, who helped me fight for my life every step of the way. I now have compassion and empathy for others—something that I am ashamed to say I didn’t have before I was sick.
This shouldn’t be a political issue. Everyone’s life is valuable.”
